A recent round-up! I went to Sweden for the Observer to review the Stone Roses’ first festival show in 16 years… which also turned out to be their first show after Reni stormed off-stage in Amsterdam…

… this not being long after I’d endured Tenacious D, and thoroughly enjoyed the wonderful Poliça, also for the Observer…

…then it was back to London E9 to review the Lovebox Festival for The Guardian, where Kelis and Chic impressed more than Lana Del Rey…

… in The Guardian, I also wrote about four of the greatest no 1s of all time, for their 60 Years Of The Top 40 special: the Supremes’ Baby Love, Pet Shop Boys’ West End Girls, Culture Club’s Karma Chameleon, and Lily Allen’s Smile…

… in this month’s Word, you’ll find my many, many words the wonderful new BFI Roll Out The Barrel collection, a series of films about the great lost British pub…

… and in the recent Q magazine, I interview The Walkmen in New York and review a ton of albums, including Hollie Cook, Carole King and Allo Darlin’, and the complete Curb Your Enthusiasm box set.

Also, we’re updating the Smoke: A London Peculiar archive regularly, and posting new pieces. Come join us.
